New York City Cup – Day 5 Showcase Camp

New York Cup-Showcase Camp

The Showcase Camp took place today at Randall’s Island. It was supposed to be from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, but an unexpected thunder storm curtailed the event abruptly. When we arrived at fields 83, 84 and 85 where the camp took place, the boys checked in, received their camp jersey and were placed on six different teams. Each team was coached by coaches from different colleges across the USA. Each team was put through different drills by their coaches, then they played like seven-a-side. The final hour or so was supposed to be 11-a side, but at that point the heavens opened up. The downpour was torrential. This had everyone scampering to get into their vehicles or acquire shelter somewhere. It came with thunder and lightening. I felt the brimstone was not far behind. At this point we were all in our vehicles and we realized very quickly that the session was not going to be able to continue.

All of the boys said that they came away with something positive from the time that they had with the coaches, so that in itself is a plus. After we returned to the hotel, the team went to a strip mall close by where there are stores such as Target, Staples and Modell’s. The night ended with dinner at the hotel where there is a buffet restaurant. Tomorrow we play our first game at 5.20pm.
