New York City Cup – Day 8

Game 3-NYC

Our last game of the tournament was played at 10.00am this morning on the same field as our first game, field 10. Just as a note, the fields we played on were astro turf. It was nice that our ‘home field’ is also astro turf. The weather was slightly cooler than yesterday, but you knew that as time passed by it would get warmer and warmer.

Game 3-NYC

This game and our first game were our two best games of the tournament. Again we began at a fast clip and struck the post in the 7th minute, from a strike off the boot of Jorge Rodriguez, with the keeper well beaten. The first half continued with us dominating the ball, creating chances, but not putting the final touch. Once again it was déjà vu, one break against the run of play and the next thing you know the ball is in the back of the net, South Bronx United 97 Strikers 1 SKHY FC 0. It is amazing that in each game our opposition has scored a goal against the run of play. What was good though, is that the boys did not give up.

Game 3-NYC

The second half was much of the same, SKHY controlling the pace of the game and the majority of ball possession. By this time the temperature had risen and it was quite humid. We continued to move the ball around the park efficiently with Keyshawn Villafana having a key role. He has worked tremendously hard for his team on this tour and has had three good games. Finally, it came. From a corner, there was a lot of jostling in the box and Tevin Lessey poked the ball into the back of the net, South Bronx United 97 Strikers 1 SKHY FC 1, with 20 minutes left. We continued to search for a winner, but it not come and it did not help that for the final 10 minutes we had to play with ten men as one of our players was red carded.

We checked out the Empire State Building, Macy’s (the largest store in the world) and hung around Times Square. Of course, some shopping was also done. These guys love to shop.
