SKHY Girl Makes Impact on National Stage

Another SKHY young lady has followed in the footsteps of a handful of females, from SKHY, who have been successful on the National Teams in the pranae-3.jpgast. Her name is Ranae Ward, a student of Bishop Anstey High School, Port of Spain and a past student of Atwell’s Educational Institute, Tacarigua. Ranae was selected to our, Trinidad and Tobago, national U-17 and U-20 teams to represent her country in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) qualifiers.

Ranae Ward, born on November 07, 1999 has been a member of SKHY Football Club (SKHY FC) since she has been 5 years old. She has followed in the footsteps of Jamila Gamero (Cross), Nicole Betancourt and Racine Romain. All represented their country on national teams. Ranae has always played with the boys’ teams of her age coming through the years, because of two reasons. Firstly, she was good enough to compete with them and secondly, SKHY does not have enough girls of her age to form a team. Ranae has always been a hard worker and has developed her footballing skills and knowledge immensely. She is one of the few girls I know of who can juggle the ball with both feet, using one touch on each foot, over 500 times and do the same number with each foot individually, using just the instep. Achieving this takes some dedication and patience and she has both. Ranae is also a young player who can discuss the game of football and analyze it to a great degree for her tender age.
Ranae was selected to the national U-17 and U-20 training squads and after they were whittled down, she was selected to represent her country, something that she always looked forward to. Ranae plays at either midfield or forward. Her first assignment was with the U-20 team for the CFU qualifiers, played in St. Vincent, in July, against Dominica and St. Vincent. The team got over this first hurdle and will be at the finals in October in Haiti. Next on the agenda was the CFU qualifiers for the U-17 team in St. Kitts/Nevis against Dominica, British Virgin Islands and St. Kitts/Nevis. Ranae scored a goal in each game against Dominica and the British Virgin Islands. It’s also on to the CFU finals in this age group for her and her team, which will be hosted by Puerto Rico in November.

ranae-4.jpgWell done Ranae. Your club is proud of you. Keep on working hard, showing your dedication and commitment toward your chosen sport. Always remember what you have been taught through each stage of your life from your parents, schools and club. This is what has you at this point in your life at present. Keep on reaching for the stars, I am sure a scholarship to a university is imminent.
Not to pun on the word, but as you know, “At this SKHY there is no limit.”
