North East Stars v Defense Force

Under 13

It was a sunny and windy morning at the Arima Velodrome, as both North East Stars (NES) and Defense Force prepared to do battle. Our 13 boys seemed confident and in good spirit after coming off a commanding performance the week before. They started off brightly pressuring North East from the get go pinning them back into their own half, good link up play between our wing backs, midfield, and wide players proved a constant threat early on. Eventually the pressure would give, as Joshua Mason ran on to a ball played over the top in which he then finished easily in the 3rd minute, 1-0 Defense Force. As the half progressed however, the wind clearly started to affect the Defence Force as they were playing against it. NES took full advantage of this as they created a couple of clear cut scoring opportunities and it wasn’t too long before they took one, with Terron Miller (25’) hitting the net, 1-1 at the half.

Playing with the added advantage of the wind to our backs in the second half we started to impose themselves, creating scoring opportunities intermittently throughout the half. Due to their persistence and fight the winning goal came and not a moment too soon, in the 69th minute, as Joshua Mason poached on great work done by Dante Moses. Final score 2-1 in favour of Defense Force, well done guys, and on to the next game.

We started the game with good focus and intensity, which was good as North East Stars (NES) was up for the contest. The intensity and the quality of football were maintained for most the contest. As in all our previous games, we finished the game both strong and in the ascendancy. This is a testament to the improving fitness level across the team.

We went into the second half with a 1-0 lead; a goal scored by Justin Araujo-Wilson (27’). NES equalized early in the second half through Omari Adams (47’), following which we settled back into the game and came out 3-1 winners with further goals from Justin again in the 78’ and Aiden Marcano (69’). It was the first game in which all the goals came from open play. Prior to this game, approximately 50% of the team's goals came from set play i.e. free kicks and corners. Keep on working hard boys. Final score was North East Stars 1 Defense Force 3.

Our U-17’s a having a torrid time at the beginning of this season, not winning a game as yet and only securing 1 point out of 15. This weekend, again we suffered at the hands of NES. This time a 5-2 defeat. Two goals should be enough to win a game, but defensively too many soft goals are being allowed. NES scored early goals through Jaydon Prowell (14’), Elisha Garcia (20’) and Kobe Douglas (22’). This had the team on the back foot from early, but they battled on gallantly and pulled back two goals from Alexi George (34’) and Jakeem McNeil (40’). The first part of the half belonged to NES and the second part to us. The second half was a ding dong affair, but then in the 78’, NES scored from the boot of John Paul Rochford, making the score 4-2. This knocked the stuffing out us. In time added on NES scored their fifth through Jeremiah Jobe. At the final whistle the score read NES 5 Defense Force 2.
