About Us

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME!

SKHY Football Club (SKHY FC) has been in existence for over 25 years, serving the community and an entire generation of children who have become part of our wonderful family. We may be designated as a ‘Football Club’, but we consider ourselves a lot more. When one becomes a SKHY (SkHyian) member, the club looks at the holistic development of the person in its truest sense of the meaning. We consider the all round development of the person; trying to create a human being with skills that will last a lifetime (football & social), making that person someone who will serve society for the better.

The directors, Joel Hyacenth and Colin Skeene have a wealth of experience in the football world covering 60 + years between them. Both have attained high levels of coaching qualifications; the International Preliminary English FA Badge (UEFA B license) and Joel also has the Brazilian Advanced Coaching Certificate. Joel and Colin have coached all over the USA at University, Club and High School camps to which they were invited, where a great deal of experience was gained and contacts were developed.

A wealth of knowledge is also based in the coaches of the different age groups at the club. We are proud to say that most of the coaches came through our system as children/players and know what the philosophy of the club is, what we expect of our members and what the goal should be for each young person. All our coaches are required to be licensed by the Trinidad & Tobago Football Association (TTFA) and attaining those qualifications is subsidized by the Club. Coaches also have their Safeguarding of Children Certificate which has been mandated by the International Federation of Association Football/Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and all coaches as well as Club Management are CPR trained. Coaches are there mainly to teach football, but sometimes coaches become teachers, psychologists, parents and coaches all rolled into one.

SKHY is proud and humbled of and by its achievements thus far. The club has assisted many of its hardworking and diligent members to achieve academic and soccer scholarships in the United States of America (USA) through the medium of football. The pride extends to the high percentage of those who do not attend foreign universities, but go on to attain their academic degrees in their chosen fields at the University of the West Indies (UWI).

SKHY accepts all levels of players at whatever stage they are in their development; all nationalities, all races and all religions. The Club is here to develop each child to her/his fullest potential physically, mentally and emotionally. Discipline is of paramount importance and although most if not all of it is taught at home, it is maintained on the field of play. Once you become a SkHyian it is expected that you carry yourself in a certain manner both on and off the field. Members are expected to respect their parents, coaches, teammates, opposition players, opposition staff and all others they may come into contact with on and off the field of play.

At SKHY, players are placed into one of three categories initially: recreational, developmental or competitive. Over time players move from one category to another. Throughout their SKHY lives players will continue to be developed at all stages. The Club also has an Academy, which the more competitive players can enter. At the Academy, training hours and the intensity of sessions are increased. To qualify for the Academy, the player goes through a series of drills and techniques that are graded. In addition, the player is graded by her/his coach on behaviour, attitude and discipline. If the passing score is achieved, the player is offered the opportunity to enter the Academy.

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to discuss their goals and expectations for their child with the Club’s Management and be guided accordingly to ensure these are met. Everyone must take into consideration that children develop at different rates physically and mentally. Parents/Guardians - be patient and let the systematic approach of the club work for the benefit of your child.

Players - have faith and believe in yourself to achieve whatever you want to in life, be it in a sport you like or whatever other avenue of life that you may gravitate towards. You too, must be patient with yourself. Remember one of the easiest things to do in life is to give up. NEVER GIVE UP. Success may be just around the corner.

Join SKHY FC and give us the opportunity to make a positive difference in your life!
