Our opponent in round 4 was Caledonia AIA, with the games again played at our home ground, Trinity College East, Trincity. The clouds were gathering in the sky, with rain most likely to fall, which it did midway through the first game between the two U14 teams, and then on and off throughout the day.Our U14’s are in a bit of a slump, losing the last three matches, which they need to come out from quickly. Chances are being created, but unlike Round 1 when most of them were hitting the net, this round the opposite seems to be taking place. This is what happens in football. One day you can close your eyes and score, on another you will be under the bar and somehow put the ball over it. This is where one has to show true grit and battle through such times. The team missed their chances and Caledonia scored a couple, through Trent Weeks (47th) and Terry Moriss (56th), Defense Force got a consolation from Justin Araujo-Wilson (79th). Final score Defense Force 1 Caledonia 2
Our U16 team started brightly, on what was otherwise a cloudy afternoon, scoring first via Jabari McKell (3rd). As the game wore on the exchanges in the middle of the park became quite even, but more chances on goal came our way, Defense Force. Again, more chances count for nothing if you don’t hit the back of the net with more of them than your opposition. This we didn’t. Caledonia struck twice with as many chances through Akeem Mason (13th) and Trevis Byron (32nd) to go into the halftime break leading 1-2. The second half continued as the first. It seemed to be a replica. Defense Force missing chance after chance and Caledonia hitting the net with theirs. In the end Caledonia added two more goals to their tally with Dwight Yorke (63rd& 70th) registering a brace. Defense Force failed to trouble the scorers, even though we had numerous opportunities. Final score Defense Force 1 Caledonia AIA 4.
The U18/Reserves had a tough match. The first half was well controlled by our team, with them stroking the ball around the pitch, sometimes as if were on a string that belonged to us. We scored one goal in this half, a header from midfielder William Ward (20th), who worked tirelessly as usual throughout the half. The team had chances to widen the score but did not capitalize on any of them. This we nearly rued in the second half, because we portrayed Jekyll and Hyde on the afternoon. The first half we were good, putting the ball down and moving it around as if we owned it, but in the second half it was as if we were afraid of it. It became our enemy. Defensively we stood firm and gave no quarter, limiting Caledonia to a couple of chances. One of them needing a tremendous reflex save from our custodian, Timothy Brooks. No goals were scored by either team in the second half, therefore we prevailed one more timeby the ‘skin of our teeth’. Final score Defense Force 1 Caledonia AIA 0.
