This was the first round of the FA Cup. A game which was played at the Henry Street Recreation Ground, the home field for SKHY FC. Red Hill led and coached by former Trinidad and Tobago national midfielder Lyndon Andrews came out of the starters block firing on all cylinders. They closed down the ball quickly and moved it the same way when in possession. They obviously had a game plan. SKHY players definitely seemed put off by the aggressive nature of Red Hill and they themselves fell into the trap of holding onto the ball too long, taking that extra touch. Red Hill relished this situation and got in some crunching tackles at times that saw the SKHY players not focusing on the job at hand, but only complaining to the referee. Kevaughn John though, was focused on his job, which is to score goals and in the 20th minute latched onto a headed back pass from Red Hill’s stopper and hit the back of the net for goal #1.
In between all of this, the action was fast and furious, with Red Hill gaining the upper hand, in that SKHY players began arguing with one another. John kept his head. In the 40th minute he received a pass, just on top of the area and slotted pass the left hand side of the Red Hill custodian. John’s second, which made the score 2-0. The second half saw a more composed SKHY outfit, with Red Hill having their first serious attempt at goal which smacked against the crossbar in the 75th minute. If it had gone in, it could have made for an interesting end to the game, especially as the home team seemed on making it a close one. They missed chance, after chance at the southern end of the ground. This prompted their coach to jokingly say, “At the next training session, put the net up on the southern end, all finishing drills will take place there.” Was it in jest? Final score SKHY FC 2 Red Hill 0.
