Trinity Rangers entertained SKHY at their home, Prime Minister’s Ground, Five Rivers last night November 5. SKHY FC leads the standings at the moment and needs to secure every point possible in order to remain at the helm. Rangers was one of those teams standing in its path. From as early as the ninth minute, the nerves of the SKHY players were eased, as goal #1 was scored. Kevaughn John, SKHY’s leading goal scorer struck. It was some silky play. Trent Cockburn picked up the ball in midfield, laid on a pass to Jovan Edwards, who turns smartly and plays out to an overlapping Kerron Brache on the right flank, he in turn crosses beautifully behind the back of the defenders, finding Kevaughn moving on to the ball and finishing clinically to the far post. This set the tempo of the half; the momentum was with SKHY. They kept the ball efficiently, making Rangers work hard. Midway in the half Rangers got into stride and managed a couple of shots toward goal, but from downtown. They were far from on target. Around the 40th minute, Rangers were allowed room outside the area and from about 35yds a shot was unleashed which beat the retreating Tarik Hopkins and hit the crossbar. It might have made for a closer second half if this had gone in.
The second stanza continued as the first with SKHY having more of the possession, but Rangers would not give up. In the 70th minute, Jovan receives a pass from Nicholas Yee Chan, who dribbled pass a defender and slipped it to him on the right side in the area, from which he made no mistake, slotting the ball to the right hand side of the keeper, goal #2. After this goal, Rangers, chasing the game, seemed to become slightly desperate, hefty tackles became the order of the night. A couple of the Rangers players were cautioned with yellow cards. After some relentless pressure from SKHY, Rangers gave away a corner on their right side in the 75th minute. The ensuing kick was taken by Trent who curled the ball sharply towards the first post, the closest defender flayed at it, but only managed to knick it in the goal. SKHY remains at the top of the table with this victory, with the next game carded for Saturday 7th November, at the Henry Street Recreation Ground against Eastern Alliance FC.
