Last evening, Wednesday 14th October, Valtrin hosted SKHY FC at their home ground in Valsayn, NUGFW, 6.00pm. Valtrin were hit by two bombs during the first 4 minutes of the game. As the whistle sounded to start the match, SKHY jumped out of the starting blocks, a la Ben Johnson in the final of the Olympics. Valtrin was just as shocked as Carl Lewis was in that finale. SKHY attacked with full force which paid dividends immediately. Nicholas Yee Chan coming off the left side in the 2nd minute and rifling a right footer past Valtrin’s custodian. Before Valtrin could gather themselves and settle, it was Kerron Brache attacking down the right flank and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper in the 4th minute, 2-0. Valtrin came into their own as the game wore on and made some attacks, but were not of any danger to SKHY’s defense which held firm. The first half ended without any further addition to the score line from any of the teams.
The second stanza was cagey with SKHY trying to dominate by keeping the ball and Valtrin trying to unsettle them by closing the ball down quickly and winning it at every given opportunity. SKHY was the more successful team, with 7 minutes gone in the half the ball was played from the byline on the right side which found Nicholas coming into the area from on the left and finishing clinically from one touch with his right foot. Two minutes later Kevaughn John (SKHY’s leading goal scorer) notched his item to make the score 4-0. The die had been cast. Valtrin pulled one back in the 56th minute from a corner on their right side, when their striker rose above the defenders and headed in the last post. SKHY had the last say on this night however, with Kerron notching his second of the game in the 61st minute. The final score in this East FA Cup quarterfinal match was Valtrin FC 1 SKHY FC 5.
